Transitioning from university into private practice has been an incredible experience. After years of learning, placements, and countless late-night “study sessions” with friends - which were just an excuse to hang out and order pizza - stepping into a professional clinic felt like the next big leap, and it’s one I’ve genuinely loved. From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt welcomed, supported, and encouraged by everyone here. The first sign I was going to have an amazing experience with the team here was when I was met with a coffee on entry, which is without question Dr. Marnie’s signature touch.

It can be daunting stepping out into the real world after what felt like a lifetime at university, but the team have been nothing short of fantastic. They’ve been incredibly generous with their knowledge and experience, and endlessly patient as I’ve observed, asked questions they’ve probably answered a hundred times before, and worked to better myself as a practitioner. They’ve even volunteered as my guinea pigs while I practiced and refined my skills (A special mention to Dr. Liam, who’s always the first one on the table).

One of the things I’ve loved most about private practice is the sheer variety of patients I’ve had the chance to see. Each day brings new faces, stories, and challenges, and that diversity has been invaluable in building my confidence and clinical skills. Each time I leave the clinic I feel like I’ve grown as a practitioner.

Something I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I have, has been observing Dr. Marnie’s treatments with babies and young families. While I’m not directly treating them myself, I’ve absolutely loved being involved, getting the privilege of holding and settling the babies when needed. Something I appreciate every single time and has been an unexpected highlight for me.

Looking back, I’m amazed at how much I’ve learned and developed in such a short time. Working in private practice has helped me bring together everything I’ve studied and apply it in meaningful ways. I’ve learned to connect with patients, adapt to different situations, and continue shaping my own approach as a practitioner, all with the ongoing support and guidance of the team here.

I feel so grateful to everyone at the clinic for welcoming me so warmly, for sharing their time and experience, and for being the best team of guinea pigs I could’ve asked for. If the start of my journey is anything to go by, I can’t wait to see where the next chapter of my osteopathic career takes me.
